Mr. Muse and I have really enjoyed this challenge so far. Instead of thinking of the office closet makeover in terms of everything at once, like we have with previous projects, we broke it up into four steps. This takes a lot of pressure off, and once we complete the step for the week, we are free to go and do something fun, instead of feeling like we’re stuck at home constantly doing DIY projects. (Do any other old house owners out there feel like that?)

In case you missed Week 1…

We are making over our office closet in order to accommodate our actual needs. Mr. Muse and I do not need another clothes closet (which this was). We do need space for kitchen overflow as well as random things like wrapping paper and other supplies. The project involves cleaning out the closet, removing the existing shelf and clothes bar, painting, and installing new shelves as well as storage bins.

Here we go…

First, we removed the clothes bar. Then we considered removing the support or leaving it…

… and decided to remove it.

It was difficult to remove the support bar from the plaster wall, and messy, but it looked fine when it was painted over. That’s what I love about textured walls– they are very forgiving.

Painting process

The paint we used is Behr Satin Interior Enamel Paint and Primer in One in Whisper White. That’s a long title, translated, “Mr. Muse is happy he doesn’t have to prep.”

Mr. Muse loves to paint, so I let him do it all. (Insert wink face emoji.) We only used half of this can at 30.98, and we will definitely use the other half on another project. White is so versatile, and I think the wood-stained shelves will look fantastic against it.
